About the event

No historical romance is complete without at least one ballroom scene, and period materials reveal a more complex history of gender on the dance floor than we might expect. Join Fit for Fiction and The Footwork & Frolick Society for a beginner-friendly historical dance class and discussion celebrating queer Regency romance. This beginner, early 19th-century dance class will teach group dances reconstructed from historical sources, using gender-neutral terminology.

No partner or previous experience required! Dancers are recommended to bring shoes with flat or low heels that are comfortable to walk in.

The Footwork & Frolick Society is a 501(c)(3) public charity located in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Our mission is to promote historical education through the research, recreation, performance, and instruction of eighteenth and nineteenth-century dance and other active pursuits rooted in the social traditions of the American Northeast.
